Project: Child Protection Project

Background/General Description: 

Undugu Society of Kenya (Undugu) is a non-governmental organization that works towards the empowerment of children living and working on the streets, vulnerable youths and poor marginalized rural and urban communities.  Undugu achieves this through capacity building, access to education and training, lobbying and advocacy and creation of relevant and strategic linkages aimed at reducing poverty.  Undugu’s vision is A society that upholds justice, dignity of vulnerable children, youth and families”. Currently Undugu is implementing programs in Kisumu, Kajiado and Nairobi Counties.

USK is looking for two highly qualified candidate to fill the positions of Social workers. The person will work closely with beneficiaries (street connected children) in the implementation of the project and ensuring that objectives are met.

Specific Responsibilities: 

  • Provide coordination and implementation services in the project.
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of Community Child Right Club (CCRC) activities including preparation of project work plans and budgets on annual and ad-hoc basis.
  • Undertaking CCRC project specific activities as drawn out in the annual plans.
  • Mobilize the community in which the project is being implemented to ensure beneficiary buy in and active participation in project activities.
  • Disseminate project information by preparing and presenting work progress reports on a regular basis, including financial and technical reports to donors and all required program information to USK internal users.
  • Assist in financial management for the project’s activities.
  • Responsible for proper use and control of allocated program resources including monitoring expenditure allocated to beneficiaries and volunteers.
  • Acts as the key contact person for the project to:
    • Maintain regular communication with members of the program management team and other members of the Programs.
    • Initiate and maintain collaboration with other stakeholders on the ground.
    • Ensure program integration and growth by participating in program meetings and developing new project initiatives.
  • Networking and collaborating with stakeholders.
  • Ensure continuous coordination and monitoring of the project activities.
  • Submit progress reports as per project timetable.
  • Undertakes other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Qualification and Competencies:

  • Advanced Diploma in a social work course or Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or related field. Postgraduate diploma in project management or related field will be an added advantage.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in project/program work in a reputable organization, preferably working in street connected programs.
  • Five years of consistent demonstrable experience on child protection, excellent communication development skills, stakeholder engagement, strategic networking and advocacy will count, in lieu of preferred academic qualifications.
